AFTERGLOW Version 1.0 · update 14

A player window for the Spotify app

Your Spotify, in a better light.

Afterglow sits on top of the Spotify desktop app and shows it the way it should look: one big cover, clean controls, search, and your own liked songs and playlists. Free, for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Each one is a single setup file. Run it and Afterglow is installed, with an icon in your app list.

Afterglow runs on computers, not phones. Open this page on your PC or Mac to download it.

Your system

Windows

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit

Download for Windows

Afterglow-Setup-Windows.exe · 12.7 MB

  1. Open Afterglow-Setup-Windows.exe.
  2. Windows says “Windows protected your PC” because the app is not signed. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Click Install and stay online: it downloads about 200 MB. No administrator password is needed.
  4. Start Afterglow from the desktop icon or the Start menu.
Your system

macOS

macOS 12 or newer, Apple silicon or Intel

Download for macOS

Afterglow-Setup-Mac.dmg · 6.0 MB

  1. Open Afterglow-Setup-Mac.dmg and double-click Install Afterglow.
  2. macOS blocks it the first time. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
  3. Wait for “Afterglow is installed”. It downloads about 500 MB and never asks for your password.
  4. Open Afterglow from Applications. When macOS asks whether Afterglow may control Spotify, allow it, or the buttons cannot work.
Your system

Linux

Nobara, Fedora and other systems with dnf

Download for Linux

Afterglow-Setup-Linux.run · 4.4 MB

  1. Right-click the downloaded file, choose Properties → Permissions and tick Is executable. Browsers switch that off for every download.
  2. Double-click the file and type your password when the system asks. It installs Afterglow through dnf.
  3. Open Afterglow from the app menu or the desktop icon.

Or in a terminal, in the folder you saved it to:chmod +x Afterglow-Setup-Linux.run && ./Afterglow-Setup-Linux.run

Good to know

You need the Spotify app
Afterglow is a window for the Spotify desktop app, not a replacement. Spotify has to be installed and signed in. Free and Premium accounts both work.
Why your computer warns you
The setups are not code-signed, so Windows and macOS say the publisher is unknown. That warning is about the missing signature. You can compare the file's fingerprint below.
Stay online while it installs
The setup files are small. During install they fetch what Afterglow runs on (Python and the Qt window toolkit) from the official sources.
Updating
Download the newest setup here and run it again. Your settings, liked songs and playlists stay where they are.
Check your download (SHA-256 fingerprints)

If the fingerprint of the file you downloaded matches the one here, the file arrived complete and unchanged.
